Biden & Democrats need help desperately

IN A NUTSHELL: Voters have increasing doubts about the health and mental fitness of President Joe Biden, the oldest man ever sworn into the White House, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll. In addition to Biden, the Democrats, overall, don’t know how to scrap and claw like Republicans.

OK, I’m no fan of Politico, and I voted for Biden, but I have concerns about his vigor. Time and time again, despite numerous victories, the democrats are taking republican torpedo hits, and it shows in the President’s approval ratings. As of right now, the mid-term election will probably restore power to the Republicans in both chambers of congress.

The most intense scrutiny of Biden’s age and his verbal miscues had previously been limited to conservative news outlets and social media. The Republicans are running a very aggressive campaign on this, and it’s bleeding over into the mainstream media like CNN who, for some reason, has transformed into an anti-Biden platform.

It’s the economy, but Americans are spending.

Consumer sentiment is at a 10-year low, tumbling in November to levels unseen even during the height of Covid-19. A staggering 70% of Americans rate the economy negatively in an ABC News-Washington Post poll. And yet Americans are shopping up a storm, with retail sales soaring in October at the fastest pace since stimulus checks were sent out in March. Walmart, Target( TGT), and Home Depot are booming.

So what’s going on?

Gas prices are at seven-year highs. Food prices are soaring. New car prices surged in October, the most since 1975. Simply put, the cost of living is going up, and Americans aren’t happy about it. Inflation is overshadowing natural bright spots in the US economy.

In an age of instant gratification, Americans crave quick and easy solutions to serious, multifaceted problems such as climate change and economic recovery from a pandemic, but they don’t exist. These problems take time and complex solutions, but the public doesn’t want to hear that. In the meantime, the Republicans are hammering away with their messages on the economy.

The Democrats need a lesson in how to get and dirty and fight knuckle to knuckle. They need to remind voters that Trump, through his lies and inaction, is responsible for thousands of deaths due to COVID. They need to remind voters of how Trump almost destroyed our democracy and how Republicans continually lie and stoke division.

Finally, we need an Attorney General who can prosecute people who have broken the law and their oaths of office.

The Presidency is a demanding job that requires vigor, stamina, and fight. Biden looks, too often, like he is reading from a script and needs to consider handing the reins of the office to someone younger who can act like he is fighting for voters.

If the party continues on the current course, the Republicans will gain seats and make life terrible for Biden’s last two years.
