DeSantis has gone beyond reason and must be stopped
COMMON SENSE SAYS: When your state is one of the states that lead the nation in COVID infections and deaths, and you threaten to fine businesses that mandate vaccines for employees, you’re complicit in murder. DeSantis has gone beyond reason, fact, and science and must be stopped at all costs.
Via the Wa shington Post, “Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, a Republican, has descended to a jaw-dropping level of cynicism. At a news conference on Monday, he announced that if local governments in Florida impose vaccine mandates on their employees, he would fine them $5,000 for every worker. Then he stood silently by as Gainesville city employees made false claims about the mRNA vaccines that have saved countless lives during the pandemic”.
DeSantis is supposedly an educated person. The threat of fining businesses and standing there while someone spews inaccurate information on mRNA is not the actions of a person who cares about others. It’s time for the President to step in and take it right back to DeSantis.
DeSantis is trying to take over the MAGA crowd as Trump continues into irrelevance. The problem is that the MAGA base is shrinking because they see the dangers of their ignorance. Anytime Trump supports a candidate, that candidate loses, as demonstrated by the recall election in California.
DeSantis employs many of the same tricks as Trump: fighting with the media about coverage, deflecting blame onto Biden, and convincing his followers that folding to facts is the same as forfeiting freedoms. Yes, Florida, DeSantis is allowing you to choose death so that he can have a greater political life.
There should be a special place in hell — or potentially in prison — for politicians who put their political goals ahead of the health and safety of our children. That is exactly what Gov. Ron DeSantis is doing in Florida. DeSantis’ rationale for his order about state school mask mandates was that parents — not pediatricians or infectious disease experts — should decide how best to protect children’s health.
There are signs that the voters have had enough. More and more people are starting to turn against DeSantis, and his lies about not running for national office are being challenged. In addition, Marco Rubio is in real danger of losing his seat as his opponent gains steam.
People like DeSantis are dangerous because they will do anything to seek power. He must be stopped and sent packing next year.
