“Leadership” is a buzzword everyone seems to understand, but few truly grasp. Many employees view it through a lens influenced by hierarchy and power dynamics, seeing it as the ability to make decisions, give orders, or influence company direction. But is that really what leadership is about?

1. Leadership vs. Authority: It’s Not Just About Power

One common misconception is that leadership is synonymous with authority. While authority comes with a position, leadership is more about inspiring and guiding others toward a common goal. Leaders may have authority, but what defines their success is how they use it to support, motivate, and bring out the best in their teams-not to command or control.

Real leadership is based on influence rather than power. Great leaders encourage collaboration, listen to diverse viewpoints, and often give credit to others for achievements. They make people feel valued and part of something bigger. In this context, leadership is about earning respect rather than demanding it.

2. Leaders Are Not Superheroes: They’re Human Too
