We have to admit that there are a lot of stupid people here in the US
Biden’s accomplishments as President are numerous. The deficit is coming down, unemployment is low, and the states are raking in record revenue. However, read comments in any local newspaper’s feed on Facebook, and you’ll read a lot of “let’s go Brandon” comments under stories about President Biden.
For me, it’s hard not to get angry at the stupidity of these people. They rally against socialism, yet they want Biden to control corporations raising prices.
Mr. Biden was right when he went off script and said, “Putin has to be replaced. Mr. Putin is responsible for numerous murders of dissidents and stealing from the Russian public with an estimated fortune above $250 billion.
Anyone in Russia who speaks their mind will be imprisoned, lose their jobs, and ruin their life. Putin greatly admires Stalin, who murdered more people than Hitler and sent thousands of Russian troops to their deaths via the “retreat and be shot” orders.
When I recently used hard facts to remind MAGA supporters that the deficit is coming down, the states ate recording higher revenues, and unemployment is at a low point., of course, responded with “fake news. This kind of ignorance is learned over time, but we can’t underestimate its impact on society.
I understand that voters are unhappy because of rising prices, but their anger should be directed at profiteering corporations, not politicians.
The Congressional Research Service, a kind of in-house think tank for Congress, has a paper analyzing the effects of the Trump tax cuts. It finds that none of the secondary impacts that he promised ever materialized. Growth had not increased above the pre-tax-cut trend. Neither did wages. After a brief and much smaller than expected bump, repatriated corporate cash from abroad has leveled off and was used to buy back stock.
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. economy began slowing down. The real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product went up in Trump’s first two years, peaking at an estimated 2.9% in 2018 — the highest since 2005. But the economy grew only 2.3% in 2019, and the bottom fell out in 2020.
Of course, none of these facts matter to the Brandon crowd. It’s up to each of us to admit that there are many very dumb people out there. Stupidity is a kind of intellectual stubbornness. A stupid person has access to all the information necessary to make an appropriate judgment, to come up with a set of reasonable and justified beliefs, and yet fails to do so. The evidence is staring them right in the face but it makes no difference whatsoever. They believe what they want to believe. Not only do they have no good reasons for thinking that what they believe is true — there are often good reasons for thinking that what they believe is false. They are not acting in a rational manner.
