Will recruiters learn how to find really​ good candidates?

IN SUMMARY: In today’s tight job market posting a job on LinkedIn is NOT going to help you find good candidates. Recruiters need to seek out the influencers, disrupters and those passionate about what they do rather than issue a “cattle call” for open positions.

It seems that almost every day on LinkedIn there is someone who is posting a “help wanted” position on the site. Recruiters should know better than that.

The job market is good right now and skilled talent is hard to find and recruit. When I was looking for a partner to join our consulting group I went online to find influencers on social media and started conversations with them to see if they were interested in ditching the office life for a better opportunity. We found a great woman who had over 20 years of experience in HR and quickly hired her based on some posts that she wrote on LinkedIn.

Some recruiters work 100% on commission and are in dire need to place a body, anybody, in an open position. These are people you need to avoid. A good recruiter is one who cares about you and wants to ensure that a great person is put in a great job.

The other problem is that even today, many recruiters don’t practice common business courtesy. Some won’t acknowledge your resume submission and many won’t let you know where you stand on an open position.

Want to hire great people? Seek them out and start a conversation. Get to know them and what really motivates them but don’t just post a job on LiknkedIn and hope for the best.
